This is the first of MANY Monthly Round Up blogs to come for Uninvisible Pod and we want to welcome you to the show!
We realize you guys are busy and might not have time to tune in every week. This is why we’re going to take a step back at the end of each month and recap everyone we talked to, what we talked about, and link to the episodes so that you can check it out yourself at your leisure. We have exciting guests each week and want to make sure that you get the chance to hear what they have to say!
So, the inception of a podcast – what exactly is Uninvisible Pod? Well, we’re going to be talking to all sorts of practitioners on this support podcast. We aren’t here to sway you one way or another between Western and integrative medicine or alternatives here and there. Really, we want to empower you with information so you can make your own decisions. We aren’t secretly endorsed by anyone, nor do we have any particular ties to specific practitioners – we’re here to facilitate a community through conversation.
It’s that simple. We’re here oversharing so you don’t have to struggle with invisibility anymore.
December and January were busy months! We talked to Mercedes Yvette about self-care and symptoms when living with lupus, Sascha Alexander (twice!!) about invisible illness and health coaching, Dr. Yarvic Rothman and Calliope Tsoukalas on nutrition and integrative medicine, Alyson Roux on all kinds of things health education and FMF (Familial Mediterranean Fever), Liz Beebe and Becca Murray on having togetherness through illness, and hot laser therapy for chronic pain with Dr. Harold Kraft.
Needless to say, we’re excited to share them with you. See you next month!
This is a short episode where you get to meet host, Lauren Freedman, and our mission to bring greater awareness and visibility to invisible and chronic illness. It’s nice to meet you!
Join Lauren as she chats with Mercedes Yvette, known internationally for her star turn on America’s Next Top Model. She is a working mom that has been living with lupus and has been a lupus advocate for many years. In Episode 1, we talk about her diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing self-care and symptom management behaviors.
Meet Sascha Alexander, Certified Autoimmune Wellness Coach extraordinaire. It’s going to take two episodes to hear everything she has to say! In part 1, we learn about Sascha’s personal battle with autoimmune disease: her symptoms, diagnosis, and the steep learning curve of treatment for invisible illness. Specifically, Sascha lives with mold toxicity, Interstitial Cystitis, and Hashimoto’s disease. (More to come on her diagnoses in later episodes!)
Episode 3: The Role of Nutrition in Integrative Health with Dr. Yariv Rothman and Calliope Tsoukalas
In this episode, Lauren interviews two health practitioners: Dr. Yariv Rothman, the founder and clinical director of the Vitality Health Center, an integrative health facility in Santa Monica, CA; and Calliope Tsoukalas, nutrition and wellness coach. Together, they discuss integrative medicine, the role of nutrition in this practice, and its distinction from the disease model currently prevailing in the US.
In this episode, Lauren sits down with Certified Nutrition Specialist and health educator Alyson Roux (MS, CNS, member of the CAN and IAHC). Alyson lives with invisible illness (Familial Mediterranean Fever and degenerative disc disease), and also operates a weight-inclusive (HAES approach) practice in Silverlake, Los Angeles.
Sascha is back! In part 2 of Lauren’s interview with Sascha Alexander, we delve deeper into her life as an autoimmune wellness coach and how perspective shifts informed her personal journey to wellness and to coaching others.
In episode 6 of Uninvisible, Lauren is joined by best-friend duo Becca Murray and Liz Beebe. Both have lived through – and continue to thrive through – their fair share of invisible illness diagnoses (and lack thereof), from Crohn’s and IBD to SIBO, Candida, a heart murmur, gallstones, toxic mold, metal toxicity, and parasitic infections like blastocystis hominis. As best friends, they have supported and advocated for each other’s care and treatment protocols – and are here to share their journeys with us.
In this episode, Lauren sits down with Dr. Harold Kraft, owner and operator of LaserMD Pain Relief in Southern California. With a background in anesthesiology and engineering, he has been working in groundbreaking Class 4 laser technology to treat and cure various forms of pain and injury, from neuropathy, arthritis, CRPS, and sciatica to fibromyalgia, PTSD, and TBI (traumatic brain injury). Sometimes in just a few short treatments, he has observed incredible results and reduced symptoms – and, in many cases, eliminated or bypassed the need for prescription opioids.
